Broken lock alerts cops to store theft in Dubai

A broken lock of a warehouse drew the attention of a policeman who observed the scene until a man came out of the store looking right and left and was arrested.

On March 12, at around 8.30pm, two policemen were patrolling Dubai’s Al Quoz industrial area when they saw that a lock of a warehouse was broken and they reported it to their senior.

“I asked them to wait and observe the situation and I rushed to the location with other staff.  While we were there observing, a man came out of the store, looking right and left. We suspected his behaviour so we stopped him. Searching him, we found a pair of steel scissors in his pocket. Asking him what he was doing in the warehouse, he admitted that he and his two friends, who were still inside, came to steal three electricity generators,” Second Lieutenant Hamdan Zayed, told investigators.

When policemen entered the store, the other two had already fled. Police found three electricity generators loaded in a Nissan Pathfinder vehicle parked inside the warehouse.

AA, 29, Pakistani, told police that he had cut off the wires of the generators and then loaded them into the vehicle with the help of his accomplices, one of whom remained at large. AA told the police that MA, visitor, was only observing the area and did not participate in the theft.

The court will reconvene on July 1.
