Five thieves allegedly stole Dh350,000 after breaking the safe of a company’s office and also took a laptop worth Dh700, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The accused changed the position of a CCTV camera in the company's corridor, unaware that there were two other cameras in the office where they broke the safe.

On July 6, MS, 31, Pakistani salesman, went to the company’s office and found the safe broken and cash stolen. He also noticed that the thieves had also stolen a laptop.

The salesman informed the company’s owner, SS, 50, Iranian trader, who rushed to the office, checked the scene and called the police.

Police investigated the crime and arrested AS, 25, for his involvement.

AS admitted that he had incited his four friends to burgle the company’s office after telling them that there is money in the safe.

He told investigators that his four friends went to the company’s office and stole the money. He was given Dh10,000 as his share.

The other four accused remain at large and are being prosecuted in absentia.

The court will reconvene on January 31.
