The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance acquitted a taxi driver of the charge of stealing a mobile phone that a passenger forgot in his car for lack of sufficient evidence.

The accused had claimed that he had bought it from a Bangladeshi when he appeared before the court.

PB, 29, a hotel worker from Lithuania, testified that he took a taxi from the hotel to his house in Jumeirah Lake Towers on May 5, 2012 at around 5am.

“I realised that I had forgotten my mobile phone worth Dh1,700 value on the rear seat of the taxi. I called the police and informed them about the phone’s serial numbers,” he testified.

Police found out that the mobile is being used by OSA, 33, Pakistani taxi driver who was summoned for investigations.

The taxi driver claimed that he had bought the phone from a Bangladeshi and that he had sent it home.
