A Pakistani worker along with accomplices allegedly confined and threatened to kill a guard by chopping his body into pieces while the gang was stealing electric cables worth Dh12,000 from a construction site.

SH, 26, is also accused of robbing the mobile phone of the guard and breaking the company’s lock.

According to the records, on May 21, 2013, at around 2am, while he was on his shift at a construction company’s warehouse, a group of people attacked him and covered his face with a piece of cloth to prevent him from screaming for help. The attackers had also threatened to kill him and bury his chopped-up body.

“I got scared of the attackers who were more than 15 and submitted to their demand. They tied up my hands and forced me to sit in a corner in the warehouse. After some time I felt that they had left, so I managed to release my hands and check the warehouse and the site. I found out that a large quantity of electric cables had been stolen from the store and the site, so I informed my seniors,” he testified.

Police investigated the complaint which coincided with other similar complaints in the area. Police patrolling the Al Quoz area saw four people getting down from a Toyota Corolla at 8am and trying to enter a construction site.

“Three of the suspects ran away and only one was arrested,” testified police officer Saeed Obaid.

Police also said one of the suspects had a criminal record and had been deported from the country for similar thefts.

The Court will reconvene on March 12.
