A Pakistani worker at a paper factory allegedly stole the gate’s key from a supervisor and stole new electric cables worth Dh75,000 and sold them on the spot for Dh7,000, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

After stealing the key of the factory on Thursday September 12, GM, 37, on the following day, opened the door to other two compatriots MS, 27, driver, and MN, 26, salesman, who loaded the cables in a pickup, paid GM Dh7,000 and left the scene.

The supervisor came with other workers to work on Saturday and he was to open the gate for them.

“I did not find the key with me so we all started searching for it. GM was among us and he searched with us too. After a few minutes, he claimed that he had found the key in front of the gate. I opened the gate and everyone went to work.  We did not notice anything strange in the factory that day,” testified the superviser.

The new cables were kept in front of the entrance and there was a pile of bags on them, IM, the factory’s Egyptian manager, told investigators.

“On the Monday, a vehicle came to take the waste and loaded the pile of bags that were on the cables but the cables were missing. So we asked the workers about them. None had seen the new cables but some workers noted that GM had a large amount of money with him for the past two days. Confronting him with the incident of the factory’s lost key and the missing cables, GM admitted to stealing them with the help of two others,” said that manager adding that the total value of the new cables was Dh75,000.

GM admitted that he had agreed with MN to steal the cables that were in the factory for Dh10,000. On Friday, GM called MN and asked him to come and load the cables. After loading the cables with the help of MS, MN paid the factory worker Dh7,000.

In coordination with Sharhah police, MN and MS were arrested together with a Bangladeshi salesman AM, 26, from whom the cables were confiscated.MN admitted to loading the cables after GM opened the factory’s gate for him. However, MN told the police that he had bought the cables for Dh15,000 that he had paid on the spot. His accomplice MS repeated the same testimony and said that they had re-sold the cables to the Bangladeshi salesman for Dh17,000.

AM told investigators that he bought the cables from MN and MS for Dh17,390 without asking them about their source or a purchase invoice.

Chief Prosecutor Ahmad Al Hammadi asked the Court to implement stiff penalty against the accused.

The Court will reconvene on May 8.
