A jobless Pakistani, aided by illegal residents, allegedly sprayed red chilli powder on a cyclist’s face, beat him up and robbed him of prepaid mobile phone cards and money, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim, MHM, 26, Bangladeshi worker, testified that he was cycling at 11.30pm on November 21, when four people blocked his way and sprayed red chilli powder on his face.

“I fell on the ground and they continued to beat me up while trying to steal my prepaid mobile phone cards and the money I had in my possession. I called for help and some pedestrians caught one of the attackers,” he testified.

The victim sustained injuries and scratches on his right arm, the medical report said.

Corporal Mohammed Abdul Aziz testified that the police was informed about the attack and arrested ABA, 27, who admitted to the robbery.

The court adjourned the case for verdict until March 11.
