Two men, along with an absconder, posing as CID officers, allegedly pushed a pedestrian into their car in Dubai’s Al Rifaa area, robbed him at knifepoint, pushed him out of the car and sped away, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim, MR, was waiting for a taxi in Al Rifaa when a white car stopped next to him and two of the three men in the car got off and presented an ID claiming to be CID officers.

“I was asked to get into their car to check my identity but when I refused, the two men pushed me into the back seat of the car, pointed a knife at my neck and asked me to hand over my belongings. I gave them Dh500 and my Nokia mobile phone… They pushed me out of the car and drove away,” the victim told the police.

Police investigated the complained and found out that the mobile phone was sold to a shop in Al Baraha. The salesman at the shop denied knowing that the mobile he had bought for Dh50 was stolen and lead the police to the seller who was a regular customer of the shop.

Police arrested, MD, 34, jobless Emirati, who denied participating in the attack on the victim with his other two companions and denied that the robbery took place was in his car. However, he told investigators that he had gone with the two men who asked him to accompany them for sex with prostitutes.

“I was in Rashidiya when MA accompanied by a man I did not know came to me and told me that they know an Indian who runs a prostitution den and asked me to accompany them. We went in my car and drove to Al Rifaa where they pointed out a man standing near a supermarket and said he is the one who ran the vice den.

“I got off the car and asked him if he had women but he said no. I went back to the car and told the other two what the man had said. They got off the car to talk to him while I stayed in the car. After about five minutes they returned and asked me to drive away quickly. I drove away and they gave me a mobile phone and asked me to sell it and keep the money for myself and so I sold the mobile,” MD told investigators.

Police arrested the second attacker MA, 37, Indian clerk and the third remains at large.

The Court will reconvene on February 2.
