A Bangladeshi worker allegedly premeditatedly suffocated a prostitute to death in an isolated area with the scarf she was wearing around her neck following a dispute about her service charge, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On January 5, 2014, police was informed about a decomposed dead body found in the desert in Dubai Investment Park area. A labour card of the deceased SB, who worked for an airline company, was found near the body.

The body was found with a scarf around the neck and forensic reported that the cause of death was suffocation using the scarf.

Police investigated the case and found out that Bangladeshi worker MD, 29, had used the victim’s mobile phone from his house.

It was also found out that there were several phone calls between the victim and the accused before murder.

Investigation proved that the accused had resigned his job before killing the victim and leaving the UAE in April 2013.

The victim’s workplace and workers in the company-provided accommodation testified that the victim had not been seen since March 2013.

Further investigations proved that the victim was the accused’s mistress and that they used to meet to have sex and make purchases from a nearby supermarket.

LM, 28, Bangladeshi worker testified that the accused had told him that he has been in a relationship with SB since a year and a half. However, he did not tell LM about the nature of the relationship.

“Once I talked to her from his mobile phone and she told me her name. I knew that they met every Friday at 4pm. One day, my friend was very upset and told me that the woman is asking him for money because she wants to go on vacation. He was very angry because she had threatened to leave him and go to another man if he failed to give her the amount,” testified LM.

Records did not mention how the accused was arrested in September 2015.

When confronted, MD admitted to suffocating the woman with her scarf after having sex with her in a sandy area.

“In 2013, I knew the woman through a compatriot friend who told me that she offers sex against money and supplied me with her contact number. I called her and agreed to meet her at Gate 1 of Jebel Ali Port. After meeting her, we took a taxi and she guided the driver to an area near Dubai Investments Park. We got off the taxi and walked for about two minutes in the desert. Behind a hill, we had sex and then she asked me for Dh500. She raged in anger when I told her that I have only Dh200. She pulled me by my shirt and threatened to inform the police while dragging me to the main road. I got very scared and caught the two sides of a scarf she was wearing around her neck and strongly pulled them for about one and a half to two minutes. When she fell down, I realised that she had died. I got scared, took her mobile and ran away,” he told investigators.

However, in court, MD denied the premediated murder and theft accusations saying that he does not know anything about the case and that he was not in the UAE at that time.

The court will reconvene on April 6.
