A driver from another Gulf country is standing trial in Abu Dhabi on charge of causing the death of his cousin who was sitting next to him when their car overturned because of speed, press reports said on Thursday.
The prosecutor accused the unnamed man of driving under the influence of drugs when the accident occurred on the way from Suweihan to Abu Dhabi but the defendant denied such charges.
The defendant said he was driving at 140 kph on the motorway when he was caught off guard by a roundabout, adding that there were no warning boards for the roundabout.
“He said he tried to slowdown but it was too late..the car overturned many times, causing the death of his cousin who was sat next to him,” Alkhaleej daily said.
It said his cousin’s relatives dropped the case against the defendant, prompting the court to adjourn hearings to January 16.
