The Dubai Traffic Court ordered a driver to pay Dh3,000 as fine in addition to suspension of his driving licence for one month for jumping a red traffic light of the tram in Al Sufouh area.

The 32-year-old Asian motorist complained to Dubai Prosecution about the fine issued against him.

Advocate General and Head of Traffic Prosecution Salah Bufrousha Al Falasi said after studying the complaint, the Prosecution referred it to the Court in implementation of Order No. 1 of 2014 regarding regulating Dubai Tram in Dubai.

The order imposed a fine of not less than Dh2,000 and not more than Dh5,000 in addition to suspension of driving licence for not less than 30 days and not more than 3 months if the driver crosses the tram traffic light but does not cause a road accident.

The complaint was referred to the Traffic Court and the court found the driver guilty of overtaking a red traffic light on a road that intersected the tramway in early January.

Al Falasi asked motorist to be cautious while driving on streets where there are intersections with tramlines.

The local order also imposes stiff penalties on violators.  The penalty may reach up to Dh30,000 as fine in addition to one year suspension of licence. The order also doubles the penalty if the violation is repeated within a year, he added.
