A Pakistani driver was sentenced to six months in jail for stealing his employer’s Land Cruiser after making duplicate keys of the vehicle and the employer’s house

His accomplice, HS, 29 was also sentenced to six months in jail.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance ordered the deportation of IK, 33, worker, and HS after serving their jail terms.

AA, 37 Syrian was acquitted from the charge of criminal complicity.

According to the records, SM, 53, businessman, arrived home at 12.15am on October 12, 2013. He parked the Land Cruiser, which is registered in the company’s name, in the yard of his house and closed the electric gate and locked the car before entering the house to go to sleep.

“The next day morning at 9am, driver BA who came to the house told me that the vehicle is not in the yard. The gardener, who lives in the house, told me that he did not see the car when he woke up for morning prayer,” the employer said.

SM told police that the car is also used for company work and that besides BA, other drivers including AR, AS and HS used to drive the car.

Police investigated the complaint and reached to IK, 33, worker who lived in Ajman.

AK admitted to stealing the car from the house of SM.

“I did that on the request of Abdullah who lives in Afghanistan.  Abdullah supplied me with the phone number of HS who works in SM’s company. HS gave me the car’s keys whose duplicates I got made and handed the original keys back to him,” AK admitted.

“On October 11, I, together with HS, AA, Syrian, and other two Pakistanis went to the house of SM. HS opened the gate and tried to start the car using the duplicate key. AA entered the house using a duplicate key of the gate and tried to move the car, but because of a technical problem of the copied key, the car did not start. On the next day, the technical problem was solved.  At around 3am we came again but this time without the Syrian. We opened the gate and drove the car away,” IK told the police.

The thieves sold the car to someone called Haji in Ajman against Dh50,000. AH got Dh33,000 while Abdullah who is in Afghanistan got Dh12,000 and IK took Dh5,000, he said.

Police arrested AA, 37, and HS 29.
