A Pakistani driver allegedly made duplicate copies of his employer’s car and house keys and stole his Land Cruiser with help from accomplices, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

SM, 53, businessman arrived home at 12.15am on October 12, 2013. He parked the Land Cruiser, which is registered in his company’s name, in the yard of his house, closed the electric gate and locked the vehicle before entering the house to sleep.

“The next day morning at 9am, the driver BA came to the house and told me that the car is not to be seen in the yard. The gardener, who lives in the house, told me that he did not see the car when he woke up for the morning prayer,” SM testified.

SM told police that other company drivers AR, AS and HS also drove the vehicle besides BA.

Police investigated and reached IK, 33, worker, who lived in Ajman. IK admitted to stealing the vehicle SM’s house.

“I did that on the request of Abdullah who lives in Afghanistan. Abdullah gave me with the phone number of HS who works in SM’s company. HS gave me the car’s key which I returned to him after getting a duplicate made,” IK told investigators.

“On October 11, together with HS, AA, Syrian and two other Pakistanis, I went to SM’s house. HS opened the gate and tried to start the car with the duplicate key. AA entered the house using a copied key of the gate and tried to move the car, but the car did not start because of a technical problem with the duplicate key. On the next day, the problem was solved. We came to the house again at 3am, this time without the Syrian. We opened the gate and drove the car away,” IK told police.

The thieves sold the car to one Haji in Ajman for Dh50,000. AH got Dh33,000, Abdullah in Afghanistan got Dh12,000 and IK got Dh5,000, he said.

Police arrested AA, 37, and HS, 29. The two accused admitted to the crime.

The Court will reconvene on April 24.
