A drunk thief admitted to entering the room of a woman from the balcony and asking her to remove her clothes and turn to the wall while he searched her room, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
On December 18, 2014, at around 2am, DL, 25, a Filipina service worker, woke to see a man standing near her bed in her flat in the Al Baraha area.
“As I shouted he gagged my mouth threatening to kill me. He asked me for my purse.
“He searched the bag and stole Dh400. As he saw a bracelet around my neck, he asked me to give to him and then he asked me to strip.
“I got scared of him and I took off my dress and stood facing the wall upon his request. While he was searching the wardrobe, I ran away to the other room.
“I asked my flat-mates to call the police,” said the victim.
The thief in the meantime ran away.
After about two months, Dubai Police arrested PJ, 26, for another rape attempt case.
His fingerprints however matched those taken from the victim’s room and he admitted to entering the flat from the balcony and robbing the woman after asking her to strip.
He also admitted to consuming alcohol on the night of the theft.
The victim recognised the accused in an identification parade.
The court will reconvene on February 23.
