A salesman allegedly followed a cook when he left after work late at night and attacked and robbed him when he reached a narrow alley, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On February 8, at around 3am, the 26-year-old Indian cook left after work at a hotel in Naif area and headed home.

“When I reached to a narrow alley, I noticed a person walking behind me. I did not give much attention as I got used to walking back home every night with some people walking along the street at that time.

“Suddenly, the man came close to me and pulled me by my shirt. I turned around and saw his face but he punched my face several times until I fell on the ground. He snatched my wallet and mobile phone which were in the back pocket of my trousers. My upper teeth were broken. I gathered strength and walked back to the hotel and reported the incident to the police,” said the victim.

He told police that his wallet contained Dh1,100 and ID cards. Police reviewed footage of the hotel’s outer camera. A man was seen waiting outside the hotel and walking behind the victim when the latter came out of the hotel.

The victim was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The victim later learnt that his attacker is being detained at Naif police station for consuming alcohol.

The victim recognised his attacker when shown to him at an identification parade.

AR, 32, Pakistani, denied attacking the victim.

The court will issue its verdict on March 26.
