Dubai Court awards 3-month sentence for SMS, internet blackmail

Man threatened married woman by SMS with posting inappropriate pictures on internet

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced a man to three months in jail for threatening his wife’s friend with posting inappropriate pictures on the internet if she broke her relations with him.

According to the court records, AAM, 28, an employee in the Armed Forces threatened SMA, 24, by SMS, telling her that he possessed inappropriate pictures and that he will inform her husband regarding her relations with him.

He then executed his threat and started communicating with her husband.

He is also accused of misusing Etisalat services.

SMA testified that her friend SA, who was married to the accused, told her about matrimonial disputes she was having with her husband. The couple are now divorced.

“She told me that her husband is seeking to hurt me because being I am her close friend. He actually called me several times and threatened to post inappropriate pictures if I do not allow him to be closer to me,” she testified.

The accused confessed to recording telephone calls between the victim and his wife and taking pictures of the victim from his wife’s phone.
