A Sri Lankan housemaid allegedly offered tea laced with sleeping pills to her employer’s family members and then robbed the house with the help of her compatriots, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

As the Indian family woke up next day morning from the effect of the drug, they realised that JF, 37-year old maid, was not in the house and some cash, jewellery and electronic products were missing.

SB, 45, housewife, reported the incident to the police and told them that the maid may have put drugs in the tea she had offered to her, her husband and daughter the night before.

“When we woke up on the next day morning, we discovered that the maid had disappeared together with Dh1,000 and Indian rupees 15,000 in addition to some gold jewellery, computers, cameras and other electronic products. We had to go for medical checkup as we were feeling dizzy,” SB told the police.

Police investigated the complaint and arrested the maid and two of her compatriot men. The maid admitted to putting sleeping tablets in the tea she had offered to her sponsor’s family before allowing MR, 43, visitor, to get into the house and rob it.

Police confiscated some of the stolen things from the possession of the accused. The family submitted the medical report that proved that they were suffering dizziness.

NS, 22, cleaner, admitted to waiting outside the house to keep watch for the robbers.

The Court will issue its verdict on February 19.
