Dubai Police seized nearly 5.8kg of crystal drugs and 642gm of heroin in separate raids involving the first major drug hauls in the cosmopolitan city in 2012, security sources have said.
Acting on a tip-off, anti-drug squads raided a room at a hotel in Nayef street and seized a man who possessed the 5.8kg of Methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth, worth nearly Dh750,000. The 30-year-old man, identified as GA, had come to the UAE from an Asian country with the intention of selling the drugs.
In another operation, a police detective posing as a customer contacted a man believed to be trying to sell heroin.
They agreed to meet in Hor Al Anz area, where his accomplice brought the heroin in a plastic bag and handed it over to the disguised cop.
An anti-drugs unit watching the operation then rushed to the man and arrested him after he tried to resist. His friend was also arrested in the same area.
The two claimed that they had received 63 heroin capsules from an unknown person in the UAE after a phone call from a dealer abroad.
