Fleeing trader with Dh250m debt arrested at Dubai airport

Dubai police seized an Asian businessman wanted in a Dh250-million debt case just before he was about to fly out of the emirate.

The dealer in petroleum products had issued a Dh250-million cheque to a bank and it turned out to be without balance.

Police said they had searched for the unnamed trader for nearly a week following a complaint by the bank, adding that they managed to locate him when he was at the airport.

“He was seized at the airport and handed over to Rafaa police station…he is being questioned to know whether he is involved in other financial cases,” said Colonel Ahmed bin Ghalita, head of the anti-crime division at the Dubai criminal investigation department.
