Four Syrians allegedly robbed a man by spraying his eyes with air-freshener and escaped from the scene in their car.
The robbers snatched a bag from the victim which contained Dh858,000, the Dubai Criminal Court was told on Thursday.
The accused are identified as NAT, 24, truck driver, SID, 32, truck driver, HFN, 43, trader, YJA, 22, salesman.
The victim Murtada Hussain, 38, Indian, accountant, testified that on August 15, he received Dh858,232 from Smart Solutions to deposit it in the company’s account with Emirates Bank in Al Qussais.
“I parked my car in the parking area of the bank. I stepped out of the car and two men came close to me and sprayed in my eyes some material and snatched the bag from my hand. He kept on spraying towards my eyes until he succeeded in snatching the bag and ran away,” he testified.
Vinode Kumar, 44, a driver of gas cylinder car, saw the incident and noted down the attackers car plate number.
“I saw a man attacking another man and trying to snatch a bag from his hand. As he succeeded, he ran towards a car… threw the bag into it…rode the car and ran away,” he testified.
Police arrested the second accused who led to further arrests.
Police confiscated large sum of money in the possession of the accused.
The eye witness recognised the one of the accused. The court adjourned the case till March 12.
