A maid was sentenced at Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance to three months in jail for stealing Dh1,000 and valuable watches.

NB, 46, will be deported after serving her jail term.

On August 7, employer MM, 43, an Emirati teacher found out that their cook of four years was absconding.

"I filed a complaint with the concerned authorities. However, on September 22, the cook called me and regretted absconding and asked me to allow her to return. I accepted that and so she came in the evening. I told her that she should accompany me to the DNRD to cancel the notification that I had filed against her. I went to school and returned home to pick her up at around 9.45am. I was shocked to find out that she had run away again," the employer told investigators.

When the employer checked her house, she found a box containing 10 valuable watches in addition to Dh1,000 cash belonging to someone else.

The maid's Ethiopian co-worker SO, 24, told the police that she had been working for the employee for about 5 years for Dh800 monthly salary and was satisfied with everything.

"In August, NB ran away and returned after more than a month. On the day following to her return, she absconded again. I found out that she had stolen Dh1,000 that I had saved from my salary and was keeping in the wardrobe," said the co-maid.

After about four months, police arrested the accused in a prostitution den.

The accused admitted to offering sex for money and stealing from her employer and colleague.
