The Criminal Investigation Department of Sharjah Police have arrested a maid of Indonesian citizenship for stealing gold jewellery worth Dh300,000 from the home of her sponsor in Sharjah.
The Sharjah Police received a call from the sponsor of the maid, stating that he found gold jewellery concealed in a freezer in one the refrigerators in his kitchen.
The sponsor accused the maid of theft and hiding the gold.
A Sharjah Police team arrested the maid accused.
She denied the charge of theft, but admitted to a relationship with a man of Bangladeshi nationality, who frequented the house without the knowledge of the owner.
The Bangladeshi was then arrested while trying to escape out of the country using false papers.
The accused admitted to stealing gold jewellery, together with a friend, and asking the maid to hide it for them.
The Sharjah Police have recovered part of the stolen gold.
Colonel Jihad Sahoo, Director of Investigations, Sharjah Police, appealed to homeowners to be careful when dealing with domestic workers.
