A Bangladeshi maid, with help from a fugitive co-worker, allegedly stole Dh250,p000 from her employer’s house, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On October 10, at around 9pm, her employer AM, Pakistani businessman, and his family left the house. When they returned at around 2am, they noticed that the housemaid and ‘R,’ another domestic servant, were not in the house.

“I immediately rushed to the safe box kept in a wardrobe in the bedroom.  The room looked tidy and there was no mess. I opened the drawer where I kept the safe’s key. I took the key, which was there, and opened the safe. It was emptied of a quarter a million dirhams. But jewellery and other precious items were not stolen,” reported the employer.

The employer suspected that the two domestic servants used his key of the safe and that they had made a duplicate of the house key when he left it on the door when the family is in.

The family used to lock the villa’s door and the house cleaner lived in her room in the villa’s yard.

Domestic servant R lived outside the house and came every day to clean the yard and wash the car.

Police arrested the maid FB, 31, and confiscated with Dh2,000 from her on November 2.

FB admitted that the amount was the balance of Dh8,500 that R gave to her after stealing from her employer’s house.

“After my employer left the house with his family, R used a spare key of the villa and got in. After a while, he left, holding a big sum of money. He gave me Dh8,500,” claimed the maid.

The maid denied stealing from her employer’s house and the court will give its verdict on February 25.
