Maid steals Dh50,000 in jewellery from house

A Sri Lankan maid allegedly stole gold jewellery worth Dh50,000 from her employer’s house before running away, the Dubai criminal Court heard.

The employer, NB, 38, Emirati, recruited MM, 25, to help take care of her sick mother and for doing household chores.

“After three months of working in our house, the accused disappeared on June 5. Checking our belongings, we discovered that my mother’s and sister’s jewellery were missing,” NB told investigators.

Police arrested MM and confiscated part of the stolen jewellery.

MM admitted to stealing the jewellery from her employer’s house.

The court will give its sentence on November 11.
