A 41-year old Filipina maid stole her employer’s gold jewellery worth Dh140,000 and absconded, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The accused, identified as DRR, asked family driver SRK, 32, to sell the gold jewellery for a commission of Dh200. SRK was accused by the prosecution of possessing stolen items.

On October 20, 2011, a jeweller informed the police about SRK who had come to the shop for selling the jewellery. First Corporal Sami Hussain testified that he rushed to the shop and questioned the suspect. SRK told him that he had been assigned by someone to sell the gold jewellery in return for a commission. When asked about his sponsor, he claimed that he is on a visit visa. However, the policeman noticed a car key in his hand. He went with him to the car and from the number plate the employer was identified.

SRK then confessed to the policeman that a maid had given him the gold jewellery to sell against a commission of Dh200.

The accused’s employer, Mohammed Abdullah, 34, Emirati businessman, testified that he learnt about the theft from the police.  Checking the confiscated jewellery, he realised that they were his wife’s and worth Dh140,000.

The accused confessed to the crime. The court adjourned the case until February 5 for verdict.
