Man caught with 153kgs of drugs

A 27-year-old Iranian visitor MAJ allegedly possessed 150 packs of hashish weighing a total of 152.8Kgs, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Police received a tip off about an Iranian who had in his possess a large quantity of hashish and was on the lookout for someone to transport it to Kuwait.

The Police informer was assigned to arrange a meeting with the drug carrier in a hotel in Naif area.

The two agreed to meet at Bani Yas square on August 9, and the area was placed under police surveillance.

The informer was given a police car and as he received a call from the accused who was seen dragging a luggage bag informed via a person in Kuwait that the quantity had arrived at the agreed upon location.

The informer gave the sign to the officers who raided the place and arrested the accused, testified police officer Ahmad Mohammed.

Upon checking the luggage bag and his backpack, authorities confiscated 50 packs of hashish.The accused claimed that he had come to the UAE looking for a job and on one day he received a call from a person who knew one of his friends and asked him to head to Day-to-Day shop to get a flat key to stay in.

“I have got the key and went to the flat where I found large quantity of hashish. Also there are other 100 packs of hashish in the flat in Naif area,” he testified.

Police confiscated the other 100 packs of hashish from the flat.The accused confessed that he accepted to do the dirty job as he was going through financial problems and that the operation coordinator was supposed to give him money for acting as a courier. The Court will reconvene on January 27.
