Drug bust in Al Ain sees gang of three arrested with 1kg of opium

In a recent drug bust, Abu Dhabi Police arrested a driver, a farmer and an illegal resident caught trading in opium in Al Ain City.

Conducting a covert operation, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was able to confiscate more than 1kg of the illegal substance, together with drug pills, after luring the gang into an ambush in which the police bought the drugs for Dh25,000.

Colonel Sultan Suwayeh Al Darmaki, Chief of the Anti-Drug Section at CID, said: “We received confidential information recently in Al Ain. The tip-off indicated suspicious criminal activity run by a gang.

“Once the tip-off was confirmed, we set up a well-planned ambush to arrest the gang members together with their illegal substances,” Al Darmaki said.

He added that anti-drug forces surrounded the gang, arrested its members and confiscated the drugs.

The gang members were identified as SA (driver, 45); SO (farmer, 58) and AG (illegal resident, 41).

“They confessed that the confiscated drugs were meant for consumption and trade,” Al Darmaki said.
