Man demands Dh10k; threatens to burn family

A man from another Gulf country is on trial in Abu Dhabi on charges of threatening to burn his family’s house and setting himself on fire after they refused to give him Dh10,000, a newspaper reported on Friday.

The parents of the defendant  told court that their son warned them that unless they give him Dh10,000, he would set the house ablaze and then burn himself, Alkhaleej said.

“The man said he only asked for money but denied in court that he made such threats… the court adjourned hearings to March 2 to hear his parents’ testimony.”
