A Sharjah court fined a man Dh5,000 for beating up his wife although he insisted he was not at home when the woman claimed she was smacked.
The wife had demanded Dh20,000 damages but the judge decided to have mercy on the defendant and enforce the minimum punishment in this case.
Newspapers said the husband denied the charges and told court he was not at home at the time his wife claimed to have beaten her. He said his wife made a false report to obtain more money from his in an ongoing divorce case.
