ASS, a 23-year-old Indian, was found in possession of counterfeit Indian currency notes of about Rs2.5 million, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
Police had received a tip off that the accused possessed forged Indian rupees and that he intended to convert it into UAE dirhams.
“A police informer was assigned to act as a buyer and set up a meeting with the accused for the deal in Al Muteena area,” testified Lieutenant Ahmad Suhail.
Policemen arrested ASS red handed and confiscated Rs2,463,000.
ASS claimed that a man called ‘Sojo’ had told him just 15 minutes earlier to hand over the currency notes to the buyer.
“I did what he asked me to do for Dh2,000,” he claimed.
Criminal Evidences reported that 2,460 currency notes of Rs1,000 denomination were so well forged it would be difficult for most people to discover.
