Three Bangladeshi  workers allegedly kidnapped, confined and assaulted a compatriot for three days to make him pay them back Dh10,000 he owed them, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The accused are identified as HMK, 26, SJA, 26, and MKM, 25.

The 23-year-old victim MAI, 23, testified that on August 24 while he was heading home after shoping from Al Madina supermarket three people got down of a car that was stopped off the road and forced him into it.

The accused proceeded to Al Satwa area where they confined him in a room.

HMK allegedly tied his hands and legs with a plastic rope. Other nine people who were in the room then beat him with a wooden stick and asked him to pay Dh10,000 for his release. HMK then asked him to call his family back home to pay the amount.

“I called my parents and then they released me after ensuring that the father of HMK received the amount from the parents,” he testified.

Corporal Yousef Abdullah testified that on August 25, SLA received a phone call from his parents in Bangladesh telling him that HMK kidnapped and confined AIS and that he will not be released unless Dh10,000 was paid to the former’s parents.

Police arrested the accused and MKM confessed to kidnapping and confining the victim as he has handed him over Dh10,000 as visa charges for a relative but he took the money and did not issue any visa.

The court will issue its verdict on February 11.
