Robbers of mobile phones and Dh50 get 3-month Dubai jail

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced two Comoros nationals to three months in jail for stopping a cleaner on the street and robbing his two mobile phones and Dh50 from his wallet after assaulting him.

According to the records, on July 31 at around 1pm, OF, 25 year old Bangladeshi, was walking in Satwa near his accommodation. SI, 21, jobless, and HA, 18, student, stopped him and asked him for his ID.

“I pulled my wallet from my pocket and handed over the ID to one of them. He returned it to me and asked me to give him my wallet. I gave it to him. He opened it, took Dh50 and gave the wallet back to me.

“Then they held my hands at my back and searched me. They took my mobile phones. When I resisted them, they punched me in the face, shoulders and back until I fell. One of them pulled out a knife from his pocket, pointed it at my face, and said: ‘If you shout for help, I will kill you’. Then they opened the phones, took out the SIM cards and gave them back to me before running away,” testified the victim.

The victim notified the police who arrested SI who was still in the same area. On interrogation, he admitted to attacking the victim and robbing him with the help of HA. However, SI denied beating and threatening the victim with a knife claiming that HA had done it. HA also denied assaulting and threatening the victim and claimed that SI did that.

The victim recognised the attackers when shown to him via identification parades and pictures.
