Masked men attacked a security guard carrying cash boxes to refill ATMs and disappeared with millions of dirhams in a daylight robbery in Muhaisnah area near Lulu Village.

Dubai Police is hunting for a three-member gang that vanished with two cash boxes.

The guard and another employee of the security company were surprised by the sudden attack of the masked men who were waiting in front of Lulu Village. The incident took place at 10.30am.

“The Transguard security vehicle was carrying cash bags and it was parked in front of the Lulu shopping mall entrance, close to the ATM counters where four ATM machines are placed.

"The security van driver was sitting on the driver seat, while the guard and another employee came out with two cash boxes to refill the ATMs. Few seconds later a masked man waiting at the location suddenly hit the head of a security guard with a heavy object and the guard fell down. He snatched the cash boxes and ran away within a few minutes; while the shoppers and mall employees were looking quite bewildered,” said sources in the Lulu shopping complex.

The four ATM machines belong to Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Dubai Islamic Bank and Union National Bank.
In addition there is an Emirates NBD branch located outside the complex.

The injured security staff is undergoing treatment and is believed to be stable. According to an unconfirmed report, the guard is a Nepali national.

The two missing cash boxes were reportedly having one million dirhams each.

“I was here washing car and suddenly there was a chaos in front of the mall. I could see a security man bleeding who had sustained severe head injuries. Dubai Police questioned many people who were present in the shopping complex,” said a car wash boy working in the Lulu complex.

Dubai Police team blocked the entrance of the shopping mall for vehicles, took finger prints and checked the Closed Circuit Television footages from the mall entrance as well as the Transguard Vehicle, which is fitted with security cameras.
