Nine died of drug overdose in Sharjah

Nine drug addicts died of overdose in Sharjah in 2015 while 440 people were arrested in connection with narcotics, according to police.

A crackdown on drugs in the Northern Emirate also resulted in the seizure of more than 71 million drug pills in the first 10 months of last year, said Brigadier Mohammed Rashid Bayat, director general of operations in Sharjah.

“None drug addicts died last year because of overdose and most of them are between 20 and 30 years old,” he told the Arabic language daily 'Al Khaleej'.

He said Sharjah’s law enforcers arrested 440 people on charges of possessing and dealing in drugs in 2015, adding that most of them are unemployed or unmarried.
