A Pakistani passenger arrived in Abu Dhabi airport and was about to collapse because of exhaustion. When he was rushed to hospital, they discovered that he had 133 heroin capsules weighing over two kg inside his stomach.
The unnamed man, who is sanding trial in the capital, claimed he was forced to swallow the capsules by a drug gang in the northern town of Peshawar, saying they threatened to kill him unless he carries the stuff to the UAE.
He told court that the gang members had accompanied him to Peshawar airport to make sure he boards the flight to Abu Dhabi, adding that he had no chance to inform Pakistani authorities about the narcotics.
He also said he informed Abu Dhabi authorities about the drugs on his arrival but the prosecution dismissed such claims.
“Papers presented by the prosecution showed airport authorities in Abu Dhabi tried to help the man because he was about to collapse…they gave him water and juice but he refused to drink,” Emarat Alyoum daily said.
“They took him to Mafraq hospital, where images showed he had 133 heroin capsules weighing nearly 2.08 kg inside his stomach…..the man was also found to be wanted in Dubai for a similar case,” it said, adding that the course adjourned hearings to March 11.
