Plumber accused of groping woman in shop

An Indian expat is on trial for allegedly groping a woman’s behind while she was a supermarket buying groceries.

The victim, 34-year-old Filipina assistant customer service officer, went to buy groceries from a supermarket in Jebel Ali on August 9.

“While I was picking up some vegetables, a man stood next to me and then passed behind me, hitting my bottom. I shouted at him and threw a carrot that was in my hand,” the victim told police.

Police reviewed footage of a camera fixed at the vegetable corner and saw a man standing next to the victim and then passing behind her before moving out of the camera’s field. The victim recognised the man whose picture was taken from the camera footage and shown to her.

Police arrested VK, 26, assistant plumber, who appeared in the camera footage.

The Court will give its sentence on February 11.
