Abu Dhabi police had to go underground and act as customers looking for a pretty woman to smash a prostitution ring led by an Arab woman who was arrested just before leaving the country.

Police who were tipped off about a phone number of a lady arranging for dating called the woman and told her they were customers seeking a female company for a night and were ready to pay.

The woman, nicknamed Dalaa (fun), sent two of her women to the agreed meeting at a hotel in the capital and asked one of them to take money and return to base. The other woman’s task was to entertain the customer.

Once the police undercover cop paid the woman, other security men waiting at the hotel jumped on the two and arrested them.

A third woman was later arrested while Dalaa was about to board a flight with her husband at the Abu Dhabi airport when she was seized. The husband was allowed to fly as there were no charges against him.

After hearing the case, a criminal court in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday sentenced Dalaa to one year in prison, fined her Dh10000 and ordered her deportation.

According to the semi official daily Alittihad, the prosecution had earlier accused the woman of human trade but the court reduced the charge to pimping on the grounds there was no evidence she had forced the other woman to indulge in prostitution.

The court acquitted one defendant and sentenced another to three months in jail and ordered her deportation. The third defendant was jailed for one month, to be followed by deportation.
