The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced a sergeant in Dubai Police to five years in prison after he was found guilty of accepting sex as bribes from an absconding housemaid from the Philippines, the Arabic daily newspaper ‘Al Ittihad’ reported.
The sergeant blackmailed the housemaid and had sex with her and two other Filipinas in exchange for not arresting them.
The court also sentenced the housemaid to three years in prison followed by deportation.
According to the public prosecution, the 33-years-old housemaid was involved in sex bribery with the 38-year-old sergeant in the University Campus area.
The public prosecution charged the sergeant of seeking and accepting sex as bribe for not arresting the absconding housemaid and two other women of her nationality.
The three women had escaped from their sponsors and were living illegally in the UAE.
The public prosecution said that investigations revealed that the accused, after having sex with the housemaid, had returned her identity card.
The accused housemaid said before the prosecution that she was involved in a physical relationship with the policeman to avoid arrest.
The public prosecution heard the testimony of a lieutenant in the Anti-Corruption Department of the Dubai Police where he confirmed that investigations had shown that the convicted policeman used to stop young girls in his work area.
Investigations revealed that he blackmailed residency rule violators and telephoned them, seeking sex in return not informing the police about them.
The lieutenant confirmed that “this led to intensified surveillance until we received information that the accused was moving with a girl to the main gate of the educational complex.” He said the police quickly sent a patrol to the area where the accused was arrested red handed.
