A Criminal Court in Sharjah has sentenced an Asian national to death for the murder of his wife in the emirate’s Abu Shagarah neighbourhood.
According to a report in Arabic daily, ‘Emarat al Youm’, there were reports of disagreements between the couple in the lead up to the wife’s death.
The victim's family has refused to waive the lawsuit, demanding just punishment of the accused, aged 27 years.
Sharjah Police stated it had received a call in the Central Operations Room of its General Headquarters where it was reported a woman of Asian ethnicity had been ‘killed by her husband’.
The police confirmed it immediately dispatched a team from its Criminal Investigation Unit, along with forensic experts, to the scene of the crime.
In its report, the police states it found the body of a slain wife lying on the floor of her apartment with multiple stab wounds.
The police further discovered the accused and the victim lived in a rented apartment, residing with another family.
One of the residents claimed he heard a scuffle from his bedroom and stepped out to investigate, which is when he noticed bloodstains on the floor.
As the resident followed the bloodstains to the other bedroom, he discovered the victim lying on the ground, bleeding extensively, while her husband was attempting to flee the premises.
The resident promptly grabbed the accused and called out to one of his neighbours to inform the police.
Upon further investigation, Sharjah Police stated the accused admitted to his crime, which was caused following a family dispute.
