A tailor allegedly stole four ‘abaya’ and 12 ‘shehla’ (head covers) of total value of Dh2,800 from the shop where he worked, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Dubai Prosecution asked the court to order the stiffest penalty on SRS, a 28 year-old Bangladeshi.

Saleh Abdul Rahman Al Jaziri, owner of a tailoring shop at Abu Hail, testified that the accused had been working for him as a tailor since February 2007.

“I had also asked him to run the shop and supervise work. Part of his job was to check the number of ‘abaya’ and ‘sheila’ that each worker has before packing and distributing them to the branches. A few days before his arrest, one of the workers told me that the accused does not come to the shop after buying the needed stuff but goes home and that he is a partner in a shop in Dibba Al Hosn. Suspecting him, I asked my brother to go to Dibba Al Hosn to check. My brother found four ‘abaya’ and 12 ‘sheila’ of the shop.  Asking him about the source of the stuff, a worker in the shop said SRS gave them to him and had asked him to sell them off. When confronted, SRS admitted to stealing them,” Al Jaziri said.

The court adjourned the case to January 17 for verdict.
