Taxi driver molested teen, Dubai Court told

A taxi driver allegedly molested a 15-year-old South African student when she was in the taxi, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On January 16, RJ left her friend’s house in a taxi heading to her home in Al Barsha.

“My friend’s brother hailed a cab for me. I sat in the front seat. As I entered I did notice the driver staring at me. Once I was seated, he started asking personal questions and I replied to some. He also told me that he is married and has a daughter. And then he put his hand on my shoulder and touched me inappropriately,” she testified.

“I immediately send a WhatsApp message to my friend,” said the victim.

Her friend suggested that she tell the driver that she had forgotten her bag and ask him to return. But when she said that to the driver, he took her handbag, which was on her lap and put it in the back seat, and continued with his act.

Meanwhile, her friend had called police, who arrived before the victim was dropped back. Police arrested AA, 40, who claimed that he just shook the girl’s hand in greeting. Later, he added that he had apologized to the girl, as well.

The court will issue its verdict on March 30.
