Transit traveller caught with 2kg cocaine

A 59-year-old Italian transit passenger was sentenced to five years in jail and ordered to pay Dh50,000 fine for smuggling 2kg of cocaine in his underwear.
 
The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered MR, 59, to be deported after serving his jail term.
 
According to the records, a police officer, who was on duty on May 10, suspected the transit passenger who looked worried.
 
“I waited for him at the inspection point. Searching him personally, I noticed abnormal swelling under his belly. Taking him to the inspection room, it was found out that he was wearing three pieces of underwear which concealed seven packets between them. The anti-narcotics officer were informed and the visitor was arrested,” testified Isaac Ismaeel.

It was reported that MR carried 2.058kg of cocaine which he claimed before the court that it was for personal use.
