An Abu Dhabi criminal court sentenced six Asian men to six months in prison and ordered their deportation after they were convicted of abducting another Asian man and torturing him for two days inside a room.

The six got reduced jail terms after the victim told court he was dropping his case against the six after reconciling with them.

But a seventh defendant, who led the abduction, was given life in jail in his absence after he was believed to have fled the country.

Newspapers said the victim was shopping in Al Mafraq when the seven men forced him out, beat him up and drove him to Musaffah area just outside Abu Dhabi city. There, they locked him up for two days, during which they tortured him with sharp objects following a rift between him and the main defendant.

The six defendants told court they just helped the other defendant and had no problem with the victim.
