'Witch' maid jailed five years, to be deported

A criminal court in Dibba Fujeirah sentenced an Asian housemaid to five years in prison and ordered her deported from the UAE after she was convicted of practicing sorcery.

The maid was arrested in February after employers told police they suspected she was involved in witchcraft at their house in the eastern town.

Police seized talismans and other magic items with the maid, who confessed of indulging in sorcery with the aim of controlling her employers.
