Two Syrians, along with others who were referred to the Juvenile Court, allegedly attacked a Filipina late at night in Muraqqabat near her house, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
On August 10 at around 1.30am, the victim FK, 36, sales executive, was dropped back home by company bus.
“The driver dropped me opposite to my building. When I reached the building, youths aged between 15 and 20 were standing in front of me. When I was passing them, one held me from my back and four others beat me until I fell on the ground. Then they snatched my bag and ran away. I tried to run after them but I could not. I went home and called the police,” FK told investigators.
The victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment of some injuries.
Police arrested AA, 19, and he admitted to the attack and robbery. He told a policeman that he had rented a car from a company in Sharjah and drove to Muraqqabat in Dubai.
When they were roaming around, they saw the woman carrying a big black bag and decided to rob her. They parked the car in the opposite direction, got off and stood in the street waiting for her come close to them. When she was about to overtake them, they attacked her and robbed her bag, the accused told investigators.
The accused found in the bag an iPhone S4 and some cash. AA sold the iPhone to a shop for Dh600 after using it for five days. He took Dh200 for himself and distributed the remaining amount among his accomplices.
Police arrested OS, 18, and the rest of the attackers.
The court will reconvene on November 4.
