An Egyptian bride was kidnapped by a group of six men on a wedding eve.
Cairo Police freed the 24-year-old girl from her captors within 24 hours.
The five men and a woman sought an Egyptian £2 million (Dh1.19m) ransom for her release, according to a report in Wafd newspaper.
The girl’s step-dad alerted police telling them that the bride-to-be went missing on her way to a hotel in Al Moqattam area to prepare for the big day.
He claimed that his wife received a call from a stranger asking for Egyptian £2 m ransom. He also admitted that they had arranged for Egyptian £1m and went to the designated place to meet with the kidnappers.
Meanwhile, the cops made their move and arrested the suspects. They are identified as Mohammad AM, 36, carpenter; Ala’a A Y, 31, carpenter; Amr
M, 34, jobless youth; Mohammed N, 28; and Mahmoud, 24; and a woman.
The group confessed to kidnapping the girl, while one of the men said he was in love with the girl and she had spurned him.
Meanwhile,, they also confessed to stealing some cash she had left in the car.
