Dealers acquitted over 'flawed' police op

Several Iranian men sentenced to death for trying to smuggle nearly 33kg of hashish into Kuwait were acquitted by a Court of Appeals on the grounds police violated the law when they seized their boat.

A Court of First Instance had sentenced the boat crew members coming from Iran to death after they were convicted of possessing and smuggling 33kg of hashish.

During an appeals session, their lawyer argued that  counter-narcotics squads violated the law when they stormed the boat and searched its contents.

“The judge at the court supported the lawyer’s argument and acquitted all the defendants,” 'Al Watan' daily said.
