Fleeing driver causes huge fire at petrol pump

A teen age driver triggered a massive blaze at a Saudi petrol station when he fled while the fuel pipe was still inside his car in a bid to evade paying.

As he noticed that the pump metre showed his car was full, the driver sped away, causing the metal hose to hit the ground and triggering a spark.

“The spark caused a big fire as the pipe spilled petrol on the ground…the man fled because he did not want to pay the bill,” Kabar newspaper said in a report from the southern town of Bisha.

It said civil defence spent a long time to bring the blaze under control while police were still searching for the driver.
