Fugitive Saudi prisoner killed in clash with police

Saudi police killed a local man who broke out of jail last week with the help of friends following exchange of fire that seriously injured a prison guard.

Newspapers in the Gulf Kingdom said police chased the convicted killer Abdullah Al Sahli and his friends towards the northern town of Hafr Al Batin on Monday after locating their hideout in the eastern region.

They said police exchanged fire with the group, during which Sahli was killed and another man was seriously wounded.

Sahli was jailed in the eastern town of Dammam after court found him guilty of killing a man and injuring several others during a stunt driving demonstration. Last week, he managed to flee after his friends attacked a medical centre where he was checked.
