Rare hernia surgery performed on… chicken
Saudi vets performed a rare surgery on a chicken which had suffered from abdominal hernia for more than a month, press reports said on Thursday.
“The operation is the first of its kind to be performed on a chicken in Saudi Arabia and the whole Gulf,” said Dr Ramadan Omar, who headed a medical team which performed the 30-minute surgery at the veterinary hospital in King Faisal University in the eastern province of Ihsa.
“We performed the operation after X-Ray images showed the chicken suffered from abdominal hernia….it was a successful surgery and the chicken is now in a good condition,” he told Sharq Arabic language daily.
