A well-known Saudi football player was arrested then released on bail after attacking security men taking his nephew to jail for getting involved in a scuffle, a newspaper in the Gulf Kingdom reported on Thursday.
The player and two brothers assaulted the police and security men with fists before pulling a gun and shooting in the air to prevent them from taking his nephew and other persons involved in the fight in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah, Sabq Arabic language daily said.
Several police patrols arrived in the area and arrested the player and his brothers, the paper said, adding that all were taken to the police station.
"The player was released on bail while the others were held pending trial,” the paper said without identifying the player.
